Westminster Vitality Mile
On the 26th May 2019, Rabbsfarm Primary School chose 12 children to represent the school at the Westminster Vitality Mile. A group of 30 children began training in February for the big day.
Knowing we could only take 12, the children made sure they were at training each week and were always looking for ways to improve their time. Some children shaved minutes from their original time.
With a couple of weeks to spare, the children were made aware of who would be representing the school. These children continued to train twice a week to ensure they were ready.
The team, parents and supporting school personnel met in Green Park on the day of the event. There were thousands of people there, each preparing for their own race. We were competing in the ‘London United’ wave, which was the 16th race of the day. After marshalling, the children set of for the starting line while their supporters headed for the finishing line to cheer them through.
To no-one’s surprise, one of our very own was through the finish line with a top 10 finish – 6th to be exact. The other children came rolling through, each ecstatic with their result and the atmosphere around them.
It was an extremely successful day for Rabbsfarm, not only with our positioning, but also to see the thrill that each child received when running towards Buckingham Palace. It is something that we will be aiming to do again next year and we look forward to beating our personal best’s once again.
Kind regards
