Animals UK

The children (and some of the staff) enjoyed an animal workshops from Animal's UK this summer.

With a significant emphasis on making learning fun, the visit was educational and allowed both the students and staff  to get involved as much as we possibly.

We were able to feel and hold real animals, bringing the curriculum to life, as well as learning about each animal.  The children were able to ask questions to help them learn more.

Thank you to Animals UK - we really enjoyed the experience.

Mrs Healy is very brave!
Burmese pythons, one of the largest snakes in the world, are best known for the way they catch and eat their food. The snake uses its sharp rearward-pointing teeth to seize prey, and then coils its body around the animal, squeezing a little tighter with each exhale until the animal suffocates. Stretchy ligaments in their jaws allow them to swallow animals up to five times as wide as their head!

SPIDER!!!!!!
There are hundreds of tarantula species found in most of the world's tropical, subtropical, and desert regions. They vary in color and behavior according to their specific environments. A tarantula doesn't use a web to trap its prey, though it may spin a trip wire to signal an alert when something approaches its burrow. These spiders grab with their legs, inject paralyzing venom, and then bite their prey with their fangs..

Compare the Meerkat!
There are few animals on Earth who work as well together as meerkats. These squirrel-size members of the mongoose family live in groups as large as 40, and everyone in the mob participates in gathering food, keeping a look out for predators, and taking care of the babies Meerkats live in the deserts and grasslands of the southern tip of Africa..

More pictures to come.....
